My VIN says 71 but looks like a 70

ZMy vin number says that my maverick is a 71....but everyone that has picks of a 71 all have the front grill with the big yellow lights....i have the 70 grill...with the round emblem and thats it..

Someone could have changed it over to the 70 grill... does your title say 70 or 71?

 

The 70 will also have clear lenses on the signal lamps. They went to amber in 71. These are the lamps below the bumper

 

Open the trunk, if its a drop in gas tank its a 70. If you have a floor, its 71 or newer. Grills and lenses can be changed. Gas tanks cant.

 

ok here we go

it does have the floor in trunk...no drop in tank...and the lenses for the turn signals are under the bumper.....but the last 3 71 mavericks i have seen all have the turn signal lamps in the grill above the bumper...

thats why i was wondering

but the grill was throwing me of...and the grill i have is original, and its broken....so i dont even have it on the car

i may have to go get me a 72 and up grill...there are plenty of them out here in tucson in the junkyards

 

In 71 you received the Grill mounted driving lamps with the Grabber option. Non Grabbers had the grill with the center emblem.

 

maverick1970 is correct ... only 71 and 72 Grabbers had sport lights in the grill ... Standard model 1970-1972 Mavericks had the plain grill with the center medallion.

 

I forgot about the gas tank thing :-/
