My grandmother, whose mother was the original owner of our maverick, just found this book and gave it to me. I was wanting to know if it came originally with the maverick or if it was an "aftermarket part".

    Anyone know anything about this?

It did not come with the sale of the car. New car owners received the dealers paperwork, owners manual and a warranty info pamphlet with ID plate. Later cars had some other items, but that was about it for 1972.

They are not rare...eBay has tons of them and they are only $5-7 each.

When I bought my NOS set of shop manuals, one of those came with it along with a preliminary setup book.

    Oh, cool!

We still have not determined where this came from. Probably not for the Maverick, since they bought a Ford truck a couple years earlier, and we think it may have come with that or was purchased for tune-ups on it. And the Maverick is a 74 year model made in september 73.

But it DOES seem to be geared toward cars, and not trucks. Lists all the engines and their tune-up specs, from 1600cc up to 460 cid, and all the transmissions.

The grandfather passed away two years ago so I am afraid the answer to my question went with him.

This is what the preliminary book looks like.

It was used to help train the guys in the repair shops on the new model year changes.

Such literature was generally available for order, was a form in back of owners manuals that could be sent in with a couple bucks if the owner so desired...

Yes, actually my wife's great grandmother bought the car new in 73. Luckily she upgraded to A/C and 302! I have all the paperwork that came with the car, and even a copy of her drivers license from the same year!

Imagine buying a car for $3768.36 out the door!!!

The reason I posted this book was because it showed up about 10 years after I got the car and all the other paperwork, and I was wondering if the book came with the car.

    They saw her coming... ;)

Orig owner paid $3600 for my Comet, with 302, auto P/S, A/C, LDO etc... Of course that apparently is price of car without tax, license, etc... They did give her $550 for a '66 Comet trade in(so she paid $3050 difference), guessing the dealer probably made $500 on it...
