Hey all, I have brand new u joints front and rear, about 600 miles on them. They are tight except for the one In the rear pinion flange. It acts like it needs shims between the end of the end caps, and the little tab that centers it. I hope I explains that well enough. It's a very small amount of play, but I believe it is causing a rhythmic vibration about 70. Has anyone had this before? Suggestions? Thanks!

you have the wrong u joint there should never be any play shims would throw the drive shaft out of balance

It is possible, I ordered it from rockauto. Do you, (or anyone) have the correct moog part # so I can compare? The two moog ujoints I got were numbers 430 and 275. 430 was the one at the rear, and is listed for a 75 maverick 250 6cylinder. It says it can also be listed as moog part #357

usually the application guides have the rear u joint wrong. its an odd ball u joint. it uses a bigger diameter cap on the part that goes into the pinion yoke than the caps that are in the drive shaft.
it should be snug between the 2 tabs that center the ujoint. if it has side to side play, then the caps have been spinning and eating away the tabs. the yoke needs to be replaced.
the other thing is people usually over tighten the straps for the u joint. they should only be tightened to about 12 ft/lbs. i will put blue lock tight on the threads and hold the shaft with one hand and tighten the nuts with a small ratchet till my grip cant hold the shaft still. if its to tight the cap gets distorted and will cause the rollers to bind. this can cause the vibration you describe.
