I propose that "we" (being those that know about this stuff) compile more of a FAQ's section for those of us that are looking to do some basic upgrades or maintaince on our mavs. These questions could range from basic knowledge of the stock mavs to the most common upgrades such as discussion of the 302 swap... Maybe the questions could be sectioned under categories like: Engine and Engine Compartment -what was stock? (i-6 170, 200, 250; v8 302; and what years they were offered; etc) -what "hardware" do i need to convert from I-6 to 302? (p/s and a/c or not) -what year 302 should I look for? what are the ups/downs to each? -Shock tower modification -Headers that work (for 302, 351, etc) -Ignition options (pertronix, msd, points, etc) -carb vs efi (strictly pros and cons, not an opinion war) Transmission -Stock? -upgrades and interchangibility? (T4, T5, etc) what fits what, flywheel compatibility, etc -Manual vs Auto; floor vs column; etc... (again, pros and cons, not opinions) Drivetrain, Brakes, etc -Stock? -Bolt up axle swap, rear ends, etc... -Disc brake conversion -Power steering -etc... I think this would be very beneficial to have all this in one place that is easy to find and access, and would save all of us a lot of time having to explain things over and over and over. Instead, we could just reference someone to the FAQ's section and be done with it. What do you guys think??? Wes
Good suggestion. The section has been there all along, we just are not sending things up to put in there. We should comb the archives and the boards, and consolidate this stuff into a primer on technical and non-technical questions and answers.
Thats what I tried doing with the FAQ builder, which never really got off the ground. http://mmb.maverick.to/forumdisplay.php?f=26
If someone had the ambition I think 99% of those FAQ's would be answered using the SEARCH feature ... just a matter of compiling it in one place.
Yeah, the search function is great... Now we need some ambition. If I get bored I might try to start it, but I would definitely need some of you guru's to "proof" it and add to it. It would definitely be a huge asset to the community to have it all compiled...
OK, i just realized that since i'm not a moderator (nor do i want to be) i don't have the ability to post to the FAQ's section, so I guess i'll start summarizing here and let the moderators move them to the FAQ's. I'll try to get this going, but u guys help me out...
