This is the 2nd Accell coil on this car that is leaking oil. This one does not have many miles on it at all. I am looking for a different brand now. An MSD Streetfire coil is around the same price so I'm interested in that. However, I came across this: http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Coils/Accessories/8214_-_Coil_Ballast_Resistor_0_8_ohm.aspx
it says with a Blaster coil, but I'm still wondering. Plus, my car still has the ballast resistor wire connected so I'm wondering if it's still necessary.

is this for a race app. or srtreet car?
I've had several of the "high Performance" coils go out (no ballast resistor). the last one was on a road trip to Fl.with my 347 and I got a stock coil from NAPA and it was all good from then on. it came blue and I never painted it.

I too have just replaced a leaking Accel coil that was less than 2 years old. I replaced it with a Taylor and do not use an external ballast, although I believe there is a factory resistor wire in the harness.

beautiful engine. this is just a street car, but you know how we are sometimes. I want something that will work with both my points and HEI in the future. I called MSD to be sure and they said to use it with the streetfire coil. The Accell has more resistance already.

you too? ridiculous. yes there is. i still can't wrap my head around this having both though so I don't know what to do short of buying another accell which i don't want to do. What's your taylor part # and are you still running points?

    I'm looking at a Mallory 29217 and a pertronix 40011

I picked it up from Summit. The part number is 718205. I have the factory electronic ignition from 1975.
