Hello, I have just purchased a 1971 Ford maverick with drum brakes all round, 250 motor that has had some work done on it. I don't really wont to change to disc/drum combination if I don't have too. I was wondering if anyone has used a brake booster and if so what size. i have noticed in reading numerous articles that there is a lot of sizes out there and for lots of different makes.
    thanks.

The Maverick is a light car...no need for power brakes or power steering. If using factory Maverick parts you will need to replace the pedal bracket and related parts. It's kinda big job just for power brakes.

Just upgrade to disc brakes and you will be happy with the results.

As previously mentioned; a lot of work for just keeping the stock drum brakes.

I had a 75 Maverick with factory power disc. I now have a 72 Comet with manual disc. Honestly I can not tell the difference.

I have done the conversion and I can't tell the difference either.

Well I can tell a major difference in the power brakes on my Fairlane vs same ones without power I installed on the Comet... They'll no doubt stop just as well, but pedal effort is probably 4x on the Comet... Ones on Fairlane are similar to the non-ABS '98 Grand Marquis I own, usung pressure required for Comet, will leave your face imprint on the steering wheel... Maybe the 11.4" Torino/Mustang units just naturally require more pressure than the Granada based brakes???

I have the disc/drum conversion on my '73. I've never felt the need for power but if I did, I'd go with an aftermarket setup instead of mess with the factory stuff which was an afterthought anyway. If I had 4-wheel discs, I would pretty much insist on power brakes, as the pedal effort would increase.

my 74 comet came with disc/drum, I modified 97 explorer rear brakes, and works awesome. junkyard brakes for $50. the doner vehicle just had a full brake job as well, so it came with new calipers, rotors, and pads. ;)
