While in the middle of a complete front suspension rebuild I noticed that the threads in my upper control arms are messed up. There is no way the replacement screw in shaft will go back in. So my question is has anyone used the Moog press-in bushings and shaft kit? If so was it a bear to press them in and would it be worth it or should I find some better UCA's? For what it's worth I called Moog yesterday and the guy there told me to rebuild mine because their UCA assemblies aren't that good. They are manufactured by someone else. Thanks!

The press in kits have been available for years. They are like the GM setup. They press in easy. Make sure you get the shafts properly centered.

I had a set of "Moog" press-ins and cud not get the bushings pressed in. My friend who is a mechanic at Firestone, and a "Maverick owner" we cud not get them pressed in using a press at his job. Maybe the guy at Moog gave some gud advice.

Thanks for the response's. I'm going to look around for some better original UCA's and I don't find any I'll go with the press-in bushings!

if you want originals just look over ebay theres plenty of originals there. I got mine there years ago and they fit right in place and everything easily bolted up. the lower control arms I got from autozone.

I have a set of the Moog press in shafts on the shelf, was hoping to get them installed this winter but doesn't look like that's gonna happen this year. I know a lot of people that have used them on various Fords with out problem. The directions tell you how to open up the control arm holes to accept the new bushings and spacer is needed between the "ears" of the control arm to support them while pressing in the bushings. BTW, Moog doesn't make them anymore but the design was bought by a Taiwanese company that makes them now. The instruction sheet that comes with them looks just like the original Moog sheet. CJ Ponyparts and other Mustang houses sell them.

I have the Moog K8233 shaft kit. The instructions on form# 2491, produced in 1985 does not say anywhere to open the holes on shaft to press the bushing in. That is something I find remiss on the part of the mfg. I found the one shaft kit I have, after ruining the other trying to press it in\on the shaft. We replaced the ones that were in the car since they were not bad w/ the idea of upgrading the shafts to tubulars in the future.

If you don't have the ability to press the bushings in and just want stock arms you can find all kinds for sale some are about 100$ for the pair.

You're right Everett, I had to go look at the instructions that came with mine, I have the same form/date and it does not say anything about opening the holes. I must have saw that online somewhere because I definitely remember reading about opening up the control arm holes. Makes sense when you think about it. For a press fit on something that diameter in steel you would typically want an interference of about .001"-.002". I also notice in the directions it says to press the bushings in until the four tabs on the bushing bottom out. My bushings don't have any tabs....
