I live where its over 80 degrees more than 300 days a year, and in the low 90's probably over 100 days. No A/C would be a deal breaker for me at that price. A dealer added A/C option was available, and I have seen them used for sale on CL under $300. I am adding A/C to my 70. I want my wife to like driving and riding in this car when I am done building it. I removed the complete system from a donor car I got for $350, dash with controls and vents, condenser, refrigerant lines, evaporator, and complete heater box. I will buy a new compressor to finish up the package when its time to install. But I only traded a 92 S10 2.8 5 speed worth about $1800 for my Maverick. Not 11K. If A/C does not matter, and there is no serious rust hidden, its a great car, get it if YOU love it.
Gonna be out there for atleast 6 months. The Maverick would be in my garage with a car cover on it awaiting my return
I'm pretty durable, so no A/C doesn't scare me too much but might be something I can negotiate with and add later. I do want the wife to enjoy it as well.
Thanks for all the interest and help guys! I've been reviewing this site for a while and really appreciate the points of view and wisdom.
If you wait long enough, you'll find the gem you're looking for. Got mine in Oct, have changed to skinny bumpers, but not much else. My paint is not that nice and I have one place on the frame I need to weld, but I paid a little over a third of 10.5. Larry, what's wrong with the taillights? You just don't like them? Just asking.
I talked to the guy today and he sent me some great pics from the undercarriage and got him down to 10k but he informed me that some guy was driving down from Florida today and an hour later he bought the damn thing so I guess it wasn't meant to be. Thanks to all for the comments and info. Probably better I didn't pick it up before I was supposed to. Sure as hell feels like the one that got away...
I like the tail lights just fine, but the way they were mounted is hokey. Look at how the bezels hang below the center ridge that runs horizontally across the panel. The lights are too tall to fit over that raised section. The proper way to do it would have been to remove that raised section, or even install a different panel altogether. This is not necessary on Comets as the panel is completely flat. I have seen worse though. That Maverick that those guys on Fat & Furious did was an absolute hack-job. The owner of the car had to get the car completely re-done after that put their mittens on it.
