I have a 72 comet with these taillights: In the parts I just picked up it had these in the box. I noticed the back up lights are bigger. So how many versions are there? years? etc.
There where 3 versions, 71-72 has the smaller reverse lens, the 73-74 had larger reverse lens, both these versions had one piece molded lens and the chrome trim rings are separate molds that attached to lens through holes and then their pins where melted in place. The 75-77 versions are one molded piece, chrome trim height is slightly lower than the earlier "3" piece versions. David
Never paid attention to any differences; seen quite-a-few Comets at MCCI and Gatherings but never thought to see if any differences in lights. Thanks for the insight David. Hope all is well.
There is ONE MORE variety, that everybody missed ... the rare Canadian "no backup light" option. Looks really clean. .... just kidding .... this is my own mod. I figured I needed more brake lights, and the backup lights weren't that important. With the exhaust note my car has, if you can't FEEL the car coming, there is something wrong with you. Chip "Cometized" has done these too. When we first met, he noticed mine, and already had the "Canadian Option" joke on the ready.
Hi Cap ! Love the look of dual taillights and we've installed LED Sequentials that uses both housings on all the functions, Turn , Stop , and Running Lights . . I installed the 68 Mustang Back Up Lights in the valance below since I lost the original BU light with the conversions and it worked out really great and Looks factory .. I also show them the Sealed Cowl minus the vent slats and it heightens the CANADA origin story . Lotsa fun .. I always 'fess up afterwards. Cometized (Chip)
Hi Cap: I found the video of the Comet Sequential Taillights with the Mustang Back-Up lights and the Lincoln Town-Car Door lights. Easy to hook up .. just a little moving things around . Bill and Alex did it over a couple of hours. Whadayathink " Cometized Chip
