I've got a 71 Maverick. I bought it a few weeks ago and the original motor is in it. The head gasket has started to leak oil all over the block and in the spark plugs. I want to put a new engine in it, but I don't know what would do good in this car. All information would be helpful, and if you know of a good website, that's be great too.

It has a 200 ci 6 cyl. I'm moderate with cars, but I know plenty of people that are excellent with cars. I'm living on a limited budget, so one that's not too expensive. Thanks.

the cheapest is to rebuild what is in there already. then you have all the brackets and mounts. if your looking for a little more pep, than either a 289 or 302 would fit in. but you would have to change a few things like the motor mounts.:) do they still have the hobby centers on the base to work on your own cars? is the oil coming from the valve cover. if so you just need to change the valve cover gasket.

The 302 swap can be done on a budget but not a tight budget. Expect to pay minimum of a good donor car (say a rusted low mileage car) or gather the pieces in steps from slavage yards, Ebay, Members on this board, and I would take a low estimate of $750.00-$1700.00 to the sky is the limit depending on how fast and safe you want it. Good Luck and the six is a great motor and you could likey rebuild it for a fair price.
