My 1973 maverick starts then shuts off because the lock cylinder is turning back just enough to turn car off. I changed the lock cylinder but problem still occurs. Has anyone had this problem or may know what’s causing this.

The lock cylinder has a rod connected to it on the column underneath the plastic shield that wraps around base of steering wheel it operates the ignition switch it may be out of adjustment or ignition switch might be bad. There are 2 bolts that hold the ignition switch on column and switch has slots in it to allow for adjustment

Here is a pic of the ignition switch. Dropping the column from dash helps getting in there.

If adjustment doesn't fix it switch will require replacement.

Likely the internal stop has worn to point the spring is pushing switch out of run position.

Jeff, that is a great picture --- :thumbs2:

I'm thinking adjustment should fix it.

I think those replacement switch made today will never be as good as original. I just bought switch and it hangs intially and does not spring back after cranking.

A little different from your problem but still outta wack. I'll replace my new switch for another eventual. I got 3 key anyway.
