That explains why my 70 Grabber parts car does not have one.

I didn't know that the Black Grill, back panel and deluxe gas cap were extra on a 70 Grabber, I don't remember ever seeing one without them.

Well, I know where one WAS!
It was cracked in several places.

If I make it back down there I will check condition.

I think Motor Trend got their facts fixed up. ALL 1970 Grabbers had:

    All Vinyl black seat trim
    Black Grill and back panel
    Wheel Trim Rings
    Bright Drip Mouldings
    Bright Window Frames
    Deluxe Gas Cap

I think the confusion arises because Ford changed the price of the Grabber package after the steering wheel was deleted from the package. In a Ford Dealer Only Publication called Car Merchandising News Flash - Volume 70 CM 21 L9 dated April 17, 1970 it states:

    Maverick Grabber Program Extended!

The nation-wide success of the Maverick Grabber has led to an extension of the "Grabber" program through the end of the 1970 model year. Units built after April 30, however, will feature some equipment changes and a reduced price designed to broaden the appeal of the Maverick Grabber

It then goes on to state what the differnces will be. The changes were: the dropping of the Three-spoke, woodgrain rim-blow steering wheel and replaced with a standard wheel. They also offered the 170 engine standard instead of the mandatory 200 base engine in Grabber. And the final change....one could get a Grabber in ANY color instead of the 5 colors only offered before.

Originally the Grabber package was $278. It was dropped to $194. It is touted as a "substantial $84 reduction".

Perhaps R/T magazine had a pre-release car and prices ...

No such thing as a Stallion wheel ... I think Ford called them a Sport Wheel but they never came installed in a Maverick ...

Oh, I didn't know that. So I guess those Ebay auctions should be titled "Potential Stallion wheel". :D

stomper: the one wheel you posted, metal with holes and such, if thats the one you're talking about that came from another car, we've got one that we just put in one of the comets, ours came out of a pinto but has a pony in the center...

If your talking about the wheel in the F100 then those did come installed on Mavericks. Plus I went and looked at a 77 Comet yesterday and it had one on it.

I seem to remember a Stallion ad with that steeing wheel, that's why I brought up the stallion. I really like the wheel, that's why I remembered it. A friend of mine just bought a '71 Maverick and it has that same wheel. But, of course, it could have been put on. :D

This is a picture from an eBay auction. He wanted $650 for the fully restored wheel. Your choice of centers ... The Mustang Center or the correct Maverick Center ....
