My brother and I have been talking about a Bonneville Salt flats Maverick. Something I have been pondering for many year and was wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of one. It would be a great project especially for a basket case car. Shave the driprails and handles, etc. etc. and bellypan the car. Start out with a warmed over 5.0 and work up in power as the chassis gets sorted out. Anyone else out there with a similar interest. Just thinking out loud.

How cool would a 200mph Maverick be? Hey, if your gonna have a goal it might as well be a good one.(y)

That really would be a cool project. You got my interest up. I'm gonna go outside right now and find me a salt flat to work with. If I can't find one, there is only one solution. Everybody send salt. Lot's and lot's of salt!! Seriously though, it is a great idea, and I wish you luck with it. Preston

Getting TO the salt is my biggest dilema. To build a car with a sole purpose is fine but the expense of traveling might derail this project until I find a sponsor and or some additional funds. I really want to pursue this but the price of Maverick keeps going up even for junkers. (wait did I say junker, I meant previously abused;) ). I would hate to use a good body for this with all the modifications it will need. I want this project to stay on the burner, but on simmer for the time being.

Hey Bully, Not to change the subject of your thread but I was just wondering if you ever got your duals finished?

i have an idea that is easier on the budget and may just net you an aerodynamically "cleaner" profile...use a 4-DOOR ! the buy-in for a clean and solid one will definitely be cheaper, and the "notchback" roofline is less "tricky" at speed than the full-fastback of the two-door. a good example of this would be to look at what the ford nascar teams had to do with the '70-'71 torino/cyclone bodies (a very comparable, if slightly scaled up shape). the fastbacks were "sqirrely" on the top end so they were quickly scrapped in favor of the sedan body. the added 6 inches of wheelbase of the 4 door maverick would also be a welcome addition at 200 mph as well.
