floor shift lockout?

    anybody that has a factory :automatic: floor shifter can help me out here...
    back when i had my 71 comet gt...i coulda swore it wouldnt go into gear unless the key was ON....maybe im wrong :huh: i just got the same auto floor shift, for my 71 maverick....i dont see ANY kind of lockout or anything? :hmmm:

    I believe there was a likage that went from the trans shift arm, up to the base of the steering column. That moved an arm that rotated the collar inside the car just like you was putting it in park with a column shifter.

    Dennis is correct. My 1972 Grabber has that linkage. I believe it also locks the linkage in place when you pull the key out....so you can't shift the car unless you have the key.

    do you know if you have to have a floor shift steering column for it too work?.....does anybody have these linkages they wanna sell???

    my 75 grabber has that set up on it also. craig you are right. the key also wont come out if you dont have it in park. my linkage isnt for sale but if you cant find one i could probably make you a copy of it. just let me know.

    i just realized that linkage wont fit, my headers are in the way, now i just need the linkage that goes from tranny to shifter, anybody got one thx mike

    The steering column is the same....only the top two "collars" are different.
