I was the one that got the 74 Comet GT off the Ebay auction and was making arrangements to got to Ca and pick it up. Just got word today that it was stolen from the car lot that had it and when they recovered it, the car was only a shell! If anyone hears of a hood w/ Comet scoop, black bucket interior, racing mirrors, 4 aluminum slots (Ford) amd Comet GT motor (302) w/ trans in the So Cal area, for sale, let me know. Luckily, I'll be getting my money back as it hadn't transferred title! My son is rather disappointed! It would have looked good parked next to my 73 GT and his mother's 77 Comet.
That really sucks!! I am from the SO Cal area. I will keep my eyes pealed. The maverick/comet scene down here is pretty small. I did a recycler search and came up with nothing, that is the most common place for one to sell parts over here. Cars like this are not high profile. Gaurantee you, whoever took the parts, took them for personal use and not to sell them.
stolen GT The car was stolen from Cadillac Only in Chattsworth. If anyone sees a Comet GT that may be a "made" car, let me know or the dealer. Since there aren't a lot of these parts out there, if they suddenly show up somewhere, the "owner" may not be able to prove where they came from. Think keel hauling could come back into style???
That does Suck. Doug thought he was nuts going from TX to NC to get a Maverick. You had him beat. BTW, are you & PonyDoc the same?
Mavman-Go to www.recycler.com. It is a freeby type classified paper that is very popular out here. I don't know why Jeremy let the cat out of the bag! LOL. It is the last of the cheap car parts sources around. There are literally thousands of cars & parts for sale at under market value in most cases. The paper costs $1.50 & the ads placed are free. Their web site usually runs several days behind the paper, so it is not as current as the paper. Most of these ads are placed by computer illiterate people or should I say lazy cheap people who want to put out a minimal effort to sell their stuff. So, if you find something, they won't ship. You'd need a contact to buy it for you & then have them ship it for you. I should also state that the paper has been known to have a lot of "Hot"(stolen) stuff for sale in it & being that the ads are free & done by telephone, it is very hard to control. The old man that started this concept(paper) several years ago was just bought out by the L.A. Times, so I suspect that things will change. I found many a Ford bargain in this publication over the years. The problem now is people are buying stuff from the Recycler paper & then turning around & selling it on ebay for a tidy profit. Still, I've found many a Maverick stuff in their. I've seen several Grabber hoods for around a $150, but I never need one when I see them. I just bought a running 66 289 standard bore engine complete for $50 & a set of GT40 assembled heads for $200 off of the recycler in the last month. Damn you Jeremy! LOL
