What speakers have any of you had that stand up good to the sun? I have some pretty high dollar Polk Audio speakers in the back of the Mav that my dad had laying around in the garage from one of his old Mustangs, and after about a month they have started to warp up around the edges. They sound awesome but it's getting to the point now that it's distorting the sound.

What speakers sound good and hold up good to direct sunlight?

Jamie, speakers are an item that will just plain wear out. As with anything that is in constant motion such as pistons in an engine etc. speakers will wear out too. The sun will break down most speaker materials at a similar rate, so I would get any newer pair of speakers that sound good to you and maybe get your windows tinted to block some of the UV action.

That's some good advice Jamie. The only other option would be to put some sort of covering over the speakers whether it's a panel or a cloth to block some of the sun's rays. Or you could put them in a box. 6x9 boxes aren't bad at all. Hope this helps! Preston

Yep, you can surely mount the speakers under the rear deck and put the grille on top or make a panel with a grille-cloth opening. The downside to 6x9 boxes is that if they are not properly mounted (not just a couple of drywall screws) they can become a projectile in an accident and smash someone in the back of the head. Same thing goes for any speaker mounted in an unsafe manner. It is simple but often overlooked. Practice safe sound.(y)

Black speaker grille material is available in sheets and will cut down on UV destruction. You can take out the rear package tray area and cover it in the material and viola, you have a black package tray and Polk Audio (or whatever) speakers in the rear.

I've even thought of building grilles and setting the speakers in the rear trim panels ala '87 and up Mustang--but the rear deck idea is cheaper and easier. :bananaman
