This is what my headlight doors look like. I really like the look, I had the hood strip polished also. I'm going to attempt to build a billet grill, I think all the polish will go great together.
That looks pretty sharp. With a chromed grill it would really stand out. I had thought about making a cheap tub grill by making a frame and then using 3/8 steel tubing to make horizontal bars and weld them to the frame. You could use brake lines which are fairly cheap. Then get it chromed when I was done. I'll waite to see yours first.
There are a few pics of a tube grill on this Maverick that I found on the net. Something to go by maybe? http://www.themaverickpage.com/My_Mavericks/First_Car/First_Photos/first_photos.html#1st-6a
I know that was along time ago but I can't believe they even made a grill for a mav. I have agree with you Mavahlic, I'm hoping to have as many slats and about as wide as the horizontal in the original grill, but I want them to reach all the way to the headlight doors. Tom, they cost $15 per door.
I agree the bars should be thin and close together. I like the brake line idea. What if you made a frame from stainless steel, used stainless steel brake lines, weld it, then polish it. You won't have to worry about rust or a shotty chrome job? Just a thought.
Howz about chromed or anodized aluminum? I like the horizontal idea but I think the grill needs more smaller ribs. One could take say, 1/2" X ~.09 THK aluminum flat bar. Lay the plates flat and attach it to a frame (riveted or welded). Anodize or chrome the Al (if possible??). Just a thought.
