Originally my Mav was a two tone car. It had a white top and the rest was mustard yellow. When we repainted the car I took the chrome piece that ran from the wing window to the back window that was used to seperate the paint off and filled the holes. Well here is my problem when we did this we didn't weld the holes like we should have they were filled with Bondo when we straightend out the leaded quaters, and now after 7 year the holes are starting to bubble back out. You really have to look for them to see them, well most people do I see them every time I get in the car.

I want to know if you all think it would look ok if I had those pieces rechromed and put them back on or just leave it alone. I do not want to grind all that back out and start over that would take to long and really not worth the work but I just want some opinions on this if you don't mind giving them.

Chrome looks better than cracks or holes. Guess it depends on how bad it really bugs you. After all, you are your worst critic.

I personally like the chrome there. I would put that back on if it were me.

I have to agree with Dennis. Chrome looks better than bad body work, but obviously you didn't want the chrome to begin with. Putting the chrome back would be the easiest way to rectify the problem and I'm sure would look fine, but make sure that's what YOU really want. After all, it's your Mav, not ours.

For just your average pesron to walk up to my car they would probably never see them even if I told them they were there, I will have to agree with Mavaholic the biggest problem is I am to critical with my own ride.

Neal, I guess I'm the oddball but I like things clean, I would leave the strip off. you'll have to fix the holes some day but it looks better to me if a chrome strip breaks up something when it is in a location like that strip is. You know like a two tone job or a vinyl top.

Personally, I think that if you put those pieces back on it will be obvious that this was a vinyl top car that had the top peeled off. They will seem pointless in the absence of a vinyl top. My opinion? Leave them off unless you feel like replacing the vinyl top too. (Just another opinion) John B.

What you see in the top pic is a painted top not vinyl top, I do understand what you guys mean and I thank you for your opinions.

Didn't think I would get this many

    Neal...

I would put the chrome pieces back on if seeing the patch bothers you.
As far as two tone cars go. I truly believe that they are making a comeback. In the 50's and 60's often the top of a car was a different color than the lower section. My dad owns a '54 Ford Crestline Victoria. White over light metallic blue. He used to have (30 years ago) a '64 Impala SS, white over green metallic.
I saw a white over red '63 Impala this past weekend. I think that we are starting to see more and more cars painted back the way they came from the factory. Some of them are quite interesting color schemes. Your Maverick looked good to me with the white top. I think you will see more like it very soon! Alnog with that I believe that vinyl tops will make a comeback.

I did the same as you & removed the roof moldings & went with all one color, although I kept it the same color. I also remved the side moldings that you left on. Only thing is, I welded mine up & you can still see a slight distortion in the metal. I'm not sure anyone else would see it, unless I pointed it out though.
