the guy that painted my car came up to me at the track last night and said he had a 302 mexican block, cleaned, and bored .040 over, also had a crank that has just been polished .010/.010. i got them for $150 total. my wife can't understand why i need another block. guess i'd better start building another engine so it looks as if i'm doing something with the parts i'm gathering.
Good score Don! I'd say that's a great price for what you got. My new wife looks at me funny when I start talking about car parts but at least she doesn't tell me what to do or not to do....yet. Sam
Nice score. But what are you going to do with it? Spare for the race car, or just go ahead and put it in the new car?
i think the mexican block is going to get prepped for the race car and the 87 roller block i have will go in the new mav. for the street.
whats so nice about the mexican blocks? i have heard people scrunging them up....im near the mexican border...if they are worth it...i might go across and round up one

i saw that one dan. even if you got it for $50, the $200 shipping is what kills it unless you are in the san antonio area .
the mexican block has a higher nickel content than the u.s. blocks. this makes it stronger to use for a racing engine. it has 2 humps on the front of it for identification. also it says hecho en mexico cast into the valley.
This thread has photos I took along with all the info about Mexican blocks http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=10572&highlight=mexican+block
Great score! Also they have heavier main bearing caps and thicker webbing. Once you know what those front "knobs" look like, you can spot them really quick in a junkyard. Look in Econoline vans for them. Also, 302 casting numbers will have an M in it. C8AM instead of C8OE or C8AE
Don ... I noticed yours is bored .040 over and the one on eBay is also .040 over ... just a coincidence? Also .. for a standard block that is considered it's last bore ... can it go bigger on a Mexican block?
Ford small blocks, regardless of foundry can be bored up to .060 max. I personally do not recommend going over .030 for several reasons. Here is my top 3 reasons. Higher operating temperatures and overheating problems If you lunch out the engine, you can still bore more if you have to Cost of pistons goes way up after .030 overbore. just my - many guys have bored big with no problems. Just not my experience.
