So when you turn your signal on you see both the white and red flashing?

How do you get to this switch? Did it take long?

    signal

First I removed the steering wheel. You will see the cam. remove it and you will see 4 wires. 2 top 2 bottom. get a section of wire and connect to your battery, use this to make hot one at a time to find which color wire activates which light. I traced the brake light wires out of the steering column. cut them. traced the brake light switch wire to the brake lights. cut it and wired (both) from the column to the one from the switch. ( the two from the column are the two that are not connected to the column, now) This bypasses the switch in the column. now you should have brakes and no turn signals.. If so thats good.. now from your testing ( you did write down which wire made which light, light up) you should know that the top right wire and the bottom right wire make one side or the other light up. trace the wires out of the steering column. cut one and run a new wire to the back up light in your trunk. ( keep in mind you will no longer have backup lights after this.. ) do the same for the other side. with the steering wheel off still, find a hot wire inside the switch and connect it to the cam . there are 2 wires that come off the cam find the one that runs to the right side and connect your hot wire to it. under the cam are 2 metal (wire) terminal that make contact with the wires you have just tracd and rerouted. ( 2 top 2 bottom.) since we are using only the right side you need to remove the wire terminal that would touch the left side. this will keep future shorts away.. put cam back on and test your signals to make sure they are correct.. when you are happy, put steering wheel on and enjoy.. Since the back up light is clear you can now put different colored bulbs in to add a custom touch..(y)
DISCLAIMER: check local laws concerning what color you can use.. This worked on a 72 mav. can't garauntee it will for you.

your brake light will light normally and now your turn signals are in the place of your backup lights.. and your brake lights and backup lights dont both flash... took me about half a day.. I had a broken cam and had to replace and got this wild hair. good luck if you need more info please ask .. if anything isn't clear please ask. This mod can be trouble. bonus info.. since you cut the wires at the column you front turn signals will work normally..
