    Hello everyone
My name is Preston. I just purchased my first maverick last week. It is a 72 beast of a car. I got it for $50 off a guy living in a tiny town in Iowa, i thought that was a great price for my dreem car. Needless to say its not in great condition but it runs like a bat out of hell. Mwa hahahaha I am planning on using this car as a learning tool and teach myslef how to work on cars while attempting to restore it. I was hoping that i could use these forums as a resource for tips and hints on that i am doing because i have no clue. heheheh

My first question i suppose is does anyone know what the shifting collum of a 72 mav looks like? I know it could very well be a "three on the tree" but then again, it may not. I had it out the other day trying to figure it out, but i was on gravel roads and the thing is so darn loud due to the lack of exhaust it was hard to hear/feel any shifting. As far as i could tell it is set up like this
    (Park) (Reverse) (Neu) (?) (?) (?)
If someone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it and if someone could point me to where i could get some cheep parts that would be great too. I am a pooor college boy trying to fix my dream car, i know it will take time. But any parts info would be great be cause serously this car will need them all.

Well, first off it could be either an automatic or a "three on the tree" like you said. The way you are describing it it sounds like you have an automatic. On the auto cars it has a transmission gear selector indicator on the top of the column and the gear order is much like you started to describe; P (Park), R (reverse), N (Neutral), D (Drive), 2 (Second), and 1 (First). If you only have two pedals, a gas and a brake, it is an automatic. If three, it's a stick. Is it a inline 6 or a V8? Is it a 2 or 4 door? Good luck what every you do, and you have come to the right place for advise, and help.

Hey, thanks for the reply. It's an I6 and a 2 door. Repainted black, but still has the blue interior. I'll post some pictures once i get them developed.
