What are the chances that I can pull the oil off with the engine still in the car, I have never really paid any attention to weather or not it was possible...... I have noticed a small leak ever since I started driving the car since the engine swap, and I am going to have to pull the pan one way or the other......:162:

Chris re-sealed his oil pan with the engine still in the car. I think you may have to undo the motor mounts and lift the engine a little, not sure. He can give you the details. :D

Remove the lower crossmember (if you have one)
Remove the 2 bolts from the idler arm to drop down the steering centerlink.
You may need someone to pull down slightly on the center link to get the pan off completely. I have a Milodon 8 qt pan and it worked for me.

I don't have power steering which might make a difference.

I didnt remove the crossmember or center link on ours when I did it (twice:slap: )
I did take the bolts out of the mounts, and raise it up several inches, the starter also had to come out,...past that, it was just a matter of removing the bolts then slowly working the pan forward enuf til it dropped down and out.

I wish I had lowered the crossmember when I repaired my Moroso pan...

I jacked the engine up 2 or 3 inches, blocked it up.
    Then took out the bolts.
After that, I unbolted the oil pump and let it settle into the pan.
    Now it all pulled out.
The pain was putting it together in reverse order.
Try putting on an oil pump while it is in the pan sump...

Take his advice and drop the member...

i changed the rod bearings in the parking lot of an apartment complex. the crossmember comes out easily. then the pan just drops out. that was the best part of that job. the worst part was seeing what happend to the rod bearings, they were horrible. i had to get a new crank when i finally rebuilt the engine. i did the same thing with an FE motor in a 72 f-250. that was a pain in the ***. the mav was way easier. i guess i have a thing for engines with rod knocks.

If I could have removed the crossmember , then yes I would have too. it isnt possible on mine.

just stating that it can be done without removing it.
