ok at higher rpm my rockers come off. at like 6000 rpm you can hear it start to miss and when i go back down to idle you hear that nice tapping sound when i pull the valve covers you can see that the rockers have come off valves but are still pushing down on the springs i only have a .460 int/ ext lift with hyd lifters and stock rockers i have oversized valves and am only running one spring.. how can i fix this... guide plates maybe??? or should i just change to a solid lifter cam for that higher rpm... hell maybe double springs??? iam confused
what exactly is your rocker arm setup? sounds like the lock nuts are backing off. if using stock type lock nuts, get a set of polylocks. they dont loosen up, but if you have positive stop rockers, you may need to add spacers to make the arms adjustable. but why would you be turning a cam with only .460 life up to 6,000 rpm? sounds a little high for that spec.
Yea , It was quite common for the rockers to back off , with age , replace the studs , an nuts both .very old problem , ( of course very old car )
If you are adding guideplates, you need screw-in studs. IF you have not changed to screw-in studs, then you have push-in studs. You can't have guideplates without screw-in studs. This addition of guideplates changes the geometry of the rocker arm in many cases which create a problem in some cases. Also, use of guideplates require hardened (chrome-moly) pushrods due to friction with the guideplates. It sounds like you need screw-in studs, and adjustable roller tipped rocker arms or some type of high performance rocker arm with adjustable locks. Push in studs and adjustable rocker arms are not often mentioned in the same sentence so beware. Good luck. Seth
are they floating...and then popping off?? im not sure that a 460 cam can handle 6000 rpms.... i have a 484 cam and it is advertised to not go over 5200 rpms.... dont go that high on rpms..?? or get some stiffer springs....
yea i need screw in studa i measuerd the ones that were coming off and there is just a little bit if diffrent between the ones that arnt coming off and the ones that are thanks
