    Hey Guys,

Ran into a little problem with my new head unit. Bought a brand new alpine from crutchfield. I installed it in my 1970 Maverick. The wiring in the car was all hacked up from the previous owner so I figured it out and hooked it all up. The stereo starts up, plays cds and radio, but I can't turn the stereo up farther than about 15. After that, the stereo shuts down and then restarts a few seconds later. It acts like it's not getting enough juice to run it on a high vloume level. Anyone have any idea as to why? I've never run into a problem like this before, so I'm wondering if it's a wiring problem. Any help would be great.

    Thanks, Tim

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
how did you wire it? did you wire it though the existing stock harnes?

have you tried hard wiring it? if it works your right its not getting enough juice! it proabably at least a 40x4 mosfet correct?

my car stereo does that all the time if i got it up full balst and the bass hits for long periods of time and the bridge 400 watt amp is pumping my 12 inch kickers... it will shut down. but mines more of the amp drawing too much... i can prevent that but it keep me from going deaf.. lol!

Double check your ground connection first, only shorting out under heavier load. If all is good there I would run the power wire direct to the fuse box. This should rectify the problem.

If you have a solid ground (the antenna is usually enough of a ground to support a head units 10amps or less, but DEFINETELY not recommended:mad: ) then I would check your speakers and speaker wires and make sure that the leads are not touching metal somewhere.

Sometimes when people put the sill plates back on they pinch the wires or run a screw through them just grazing the wire causing a short to ground. Seen this quite a bit and a lot of kick panel speaker installs where the speaker terminals are hitting on metal when they are mounted in the car.
