was it a conversion from drums? If so, did you remove the residual pressure valve?

I tend to wonder whether or not Mavericks have residual pressure valves on the drum-brake models, because I have personally known two different guys who did the front disc conversion while retaining their drum brake master cylinder and distribution block, and had no excessive drag on the front discs. I admit that I really don't know for sure...

yes it has a disc brake proportioning valve, and a disc brake master cylinder

These brakes incorporate a "floating" caliper, and there is supposed to be a slight drag, but not excessive...

You didn't over-tighten the spindle nut did you? This will put excess pressure on the wheel bearings. You might pull the caliper off and see if it still has alot of drag, since it's not hard to do.

Excellent idea. The bearing drag would be nearly silent and the caliper drag would make noise. Maybe that could help without even taking the calipers off.

Book says to adjust wheel bearing nuts

    1) while spinning the wheel (off the ground), tighten the nut to 17-25 ft/lbs
    2) back off the nut 1/2 turn
    3) tighten the nut again, to 10-15 ft/lbs without spinning
    4) lock it down with your cotter pin and cover

When you do this, it really doesn't seem very tight. you would kinda expect to have that nut on much tighter, since that holds the wheel on. But too much pressure on those bearings will cause drag and wear out those bearings pretty fast.

Wow, I didn't know there was an actual procedure for tightening down those nuts. I've always just done it by "feel".

    3? Heck it's 4:30 here. :)

These cars never had a residual pressure valve.
I knew there is a procedure but I've always done them by feel too. Besides, I tighten new bearings a little tighter than I would used bearings.
