Anyone know how much it costs to ship a car to Guam?

When I moved from Mexico back to Europe, I moved my belongings together with my car in a single 40 foot container. Cost us about 1500 USD for this one way crossing of the Atlantic. That was around 10 years ago. Depending on how much you take with you, it will be relatively cheaper to bring the car along in the same container, the more you already need to ship. It will probably go by boat and then you need to count in volume (containers), not so much in weight. My office ships materials to Fiji and New Caledonia by boat (takes about 6 weeks to get there) and we count the shipments in 20 foot container equivalents.

I was wondering about the weather, and RUST!

That alone makes me want to leave it in the US.

The metal on these cars is so rust-prone, and I HATE bondo, so maybe I will do the barn thing...

Most likely, if I take this position, it will only be for a few years, then I can come back and finish her up! Just chase out the mice, knock of the wasp nests, air it out a few weeks, and VOILA! Just like it was before I left :bananaman

After my return from Mexico, I left for Asia and spent the next 8 years there. I did the same thing you are thinking about: I left it in a dry garage in my home country. Now that I'm back I have a nice restoration project to keep me busy. I have a Mustang (67 hatchback) as well, which was left in a garage before going to Mexico even. That one is on the road already (took about 3 days in the shop to get it street legal again), but no real cleanup. The Mav will get the full workover (just for the fun of it).

Checked out your site. Your car is MUCH straighter than mine. Your paint is even a little glossy. Mine met a garage the hard way, when the original owner, my wife's great-grandmother, was driving it, so the passenger side has a bunged up fender and door.

Luckily, for me, they garaged it soon afterward, and then put her in a nursing home soon after that. So it sat for nearly 15 years before I got it. A little dented, but with low miles.

I think the garage idea is the best at this time. I really would hate to have to start taking rust off it, since it is currently 99.8% rust-free.

hi scooper77515, the car sat in a garage without cover, but dry for the most part. This was in a basement garage under an appartment block. They did have a flooding once (only 10cm). We found out because the wood garage door was rotton on the bottom, so the tires sat in a pool of water for some days. But all in all it was kept dry. Much safer then dragging it around the world. What are the fuel prices in Guam, did you check? That could motivate you more to storage in the US.

I hear fuel is around $4 per gal, but I am not sure. Doesn't really matter, since the boss is paying for it

Also, the entire island is 2 miles wide by 16 miles long, or something God-awfully small like that. Not much driving you can do, but lots of hills and mountains.
