I joined up last week and this is my first chance to post. I bought another Maverick after 27 years. My first one was a 1973 2 door V8 3 speed, bucket seat. White with Black interior. I use to work for FORD's back in the early 70's. Building Mavericks. I had this one special ordered. I had the luck to have the day off when mine was being built. So, I went to the assembly plant and waited until my Maverick came out of the paint booth. Looking for a white 2 door with a hole in the floor for the shifter. When I found one that looked like it could be mine, I looked at the "built sheet". I found it and walk with it till it was done. I always liked that car and when I sold it , I thought that one day III buy another. The next Maverick I bought , is a 1972 Grabber. V8 Auto this time, Floor shift, Bucket seats , PS and Magnum 500 wheels. I did what I always wanted to do and that was , swap out the brakes with Disc. I found a donor Lincoln Versailles and did the swap. Next is to Power Brake it and install factory A/C.
Welcome to the board, John. That is a great story about your first Maverick. I think you are the only one here who had the privilege of actually watching thier new Maverick as it was being built. That had to be cool. I bet you wish you still had that Maverick now. Sounds like your next one is going to great too. Good to have you here.
I have some of it when I bought it. It still has it's orginal paint, never hit and NO rust. I found it on Ebay last October 2004. III try to figure out how to post them.
About two years ago I had my cousin [who's a policeman] find the owner. I gave him my VIN# and he ran a make. Sure enough he came up with a name. I had to call, So I called the Phone company to get an number. I called and spoke to the owner. I told him who I was. After some small talk, he told me that the Maverick had rusted so bad that he parted it out but still had the title. So that's the story on my 73.
Wow, John. Sounds like you'll have a LOT to offer this board. I gotta ask: Was it true that when certain plants ran out of "standard" parts for the Maverick, substitutions from other makes were allowed (which would explain a lot of inconsistancies)? Welcome!
Me and some other members here just toured the Atlanta Ford Plant in Hapeville the other day where they make Ford Tauruses and Mercury Sables. I was thinking the whole time how cool it would have been to see Mavericks and Comets being put together. Very cool story. To bad your old car got parted out. to the board!
My other FORD's are: 1945 GPW JEEP from WWII , built by FORD MOTOR COMPANY. 1969 Cobra [Fairlane] 2 door hard top 428 CJ Q code C6 floor shift bucket seats. 1995 Mustang GT [wife's car] 2001 E350 Club Wagon Diesel powered 7.3 LT. to haul everything around.
I worked at Fords from 1972 to 1977 . What do you mean inconsistencies? They were pretty simple vehicles? I can tell you that a lot of parts were the same as other Fords.
