    Is there another area, other than adjacent to the starter, where I might find the engine identification number? My vehicle originally came with an I6 and now has a 302. The seller at the time did not know the year of the engine. I'm not to inclined to remove the starter any time soon.

    :confused: Are you saying it's on the block so the head(s) would have to be removed? Or is it underneath the valve covers near the rockers? Thanx

    74 mercury comit 302 2dr auto
    head codeing under valve cover. the block codeing is by the starter. you cant realy go by the heads thow mine has 80 model heads on a 70's model block. i got it that whay alredy in the car.
