replacing c4 with fmx

will the fmx tranny fit in place of a c4. my son's c4 has died and I was given a fmx in good condition...any feedback...I need to know>>Jim:confused:

 

I believe Greg had an FMX in his car at one point, pretty sure it fits fine, in a pinch.

 

It will bolt up, but it has different linkage, a different converter, and it is larger. Most header mfgs say that their headers will fit a C-4 but not an FMX. They are also heavy.

I would fix the C-4 or find another one.

 

C-4s are better...

 

Oh well it was a thought since it was given to me in good shape...guess I still need to repair the c4...thanks folks

 

My Mach 1 has a FMX race tranny in it.

 

I think the FMX tranny is a great unit........

 

i put an fmx implase of an aod and it fit fine. but i dont know about c4 to fmx.

 

I am told that the FMX is the father of the AOD. Ford made a ton of them. I have 2-73 Cougar XR7's the 351-2v car has a FMX but the 351-4v car has a C6. Other than the size and weight they are good transmissions.

 

I have a 351-4v with a FMX combo.

 

What year is your Mach 1? How about the trans code on the B pillar tag

 

It's a 1978, definitely not the original engine. I'm building it as my Drag/Show car.

I was going to say, the FMX was most likely not stock behind a 4 barrel Cleveland.

 

Yeah, The car is a slow progress compared to the other projects. Just because it's going to be a drag car.

I might think of later putting in a C6.

 

Did you make the tunnel bigger?
