347stroker or 302

    maybe this is a stupid question but will all 347 strokers have the notches at bottom of the cylinder walls???

    I have heard of some 347s built using high dollar rods with cap screws instead of bolts that didn't require notches, but even some of them do. Probably 99.99% have notches.

    Kind of like trying to tell the difference between a 352 and a 390. You have to take it apart or pull a plug & measure the stroke. Same for a SBC 267 and 400, except the 400 uses an external balance...unless someone balanced it internally.

    Checking the stroke with a SBF with conventional heads isn't exactly easy. The plug holes are angled wrong (they go in sideways, which makes it tough to use a coat hanger to measure the stroke).

    The only way to know is to yank it apart or use one of those high $$$ deals that they use in NASCAR & other sanctioning bodies.

    If you pulled off the head, you could measure the length of the stroke very easily. A set of head gaskets would be a cheap price to determine if a guy was telling the truth or not.....
