Got the new 200 motor for the 170 swap, and low and behold, they put a 1 1/2" intake on it rather than a 1 3/4" which = carb plate and carb don't fit. I really don't want to send the engine back, as I have basically started the assembly. Any ideas on how to fix this or do I need to get a different carb with a 1 1/2" throat and adapter? If thats the case, where could I find this set up? Thanks Jim/Andy
Where did you get the motor from? I thought they were all the same. I dont know why it would get smaller. Maybe that head is from a 144. There is a websight for mustang sixes that might be able to help you. I dont have the link but its been posted here many times before.
The intake manifold on a six is all one casting with the head. So changing it means the head goes with it.
Called the company this morning and they are going to put together and ship the right head for it. Thanks for the help.
I must be thinking of another engine then.. thought for sure it was the 170.. I remember I had a straight 6 that had intake bolts with strainge looking retainers.. maybe a 300? Old age is creeping up on me.
The head came yesterday, so now I get to change everything over. Will probably do that tonight when I get home from work. Still looking for a resonable torque converter and still trying to get the dipstick tube out of the old block. Will post some pics as I FINALLY get to begin assembly. The company I got the motor from have been great, even though they forgot to paint the head same as the block. Any ideas for a color contrast that would look good with the ford blue?
Funny you should mention yeller, as I've already prepped, primed, and painted the timing cover, oil pan, motor mounts, and shock tower braces "yeller". Still thinking about the exhaust manifold and pulley, water pump, water neck. The wife has "good" free hand painting skills so and thinking of Blue for the valve cover with "Powered by Ford in yeller with a fine white outline. Think I'm gonna use the stainless radiator and heater hoses. Sorry for ramblin on, just thinking out loud. Jim
