    Hey all,
Well, i finally got my maverick running well enough that i decided i'd be willing to risk breaking something to find out what it could do...and boy was i disappointed! This was my first time at the track as a driver though.

Here are my (best of each category) times:

    60 ft. : 2.5-2.9, avg. of 2.7
    330 ft. : not used
    660 ft. :10.15 - 10.3, avg. 10.25
    E.T. : best 15.565, 15.7 avg.
    MPH: 91-92mph

This is at a track elevation of almost 6,000 ft. I was mid way through third gear at the finish line, shifting at 5,700 rpms
So...open to comments! I don't know how to decipher all the numbers in terms of what needs to be done, but I was really disappointed. My main problem, i think, is my 2.79 gears with an open diff. Too much throttle on the launch and i'd just spin my right tire...which yielded me some spectactular 18 second runs. My best time was had by bogging the engine and easing into the throttle, which doesn't do much for times either. I'm thinking that with a 92 mph trap speed i ought to be at least high fourteens with a good set of gears and some traction?

    My mav:
    302 +.040, 10:1 comp., lightly ported 351W heads, edel. intake, demon carb, headers, full exhaust, t-5 w/ 2.95 first, 222 @.050/.499" lift
What makes me really mad is that some of the cars there running mid 14's i have raced on the street on a rolling start and beaten!

Traction is always a big issue for street cars at the track. For whatever reason street cars seem to "hook" better on the street. I would suggest some type of limited slip/ posi traction and a set of 3.55 gears. That will help get you in the 14's. You can get you a set of slicks or street slicks, but that is not for everyone. If you do, you will need a drive shaft loop. There are a few tricks to help pick up some time that do not cost alot of money: you can advance your timing a little, that will help ALOT, just do not get real crazy with it. A couple degrees will help. You can always lose a little weight (can't we ALL!) in your car. Clean out the trunk, take the spare out and whatever else is in there. You can take your front sway bar off(if you have one) that will help with weight transfer. There are alot more things, but I am drawing a blank right now. Good luck.

Every tenth of time you can shave off of your 60 foot will give you roughly 3 tenths of ET . So dont worry about your mph and shift points until you do some work on your start line performance . 3.50 or higher (numerically ) and some kind of device in the differential is the first place to start .

A set of 4.10 gears and some tires that hook would get you in the low 14s at least. The mustang boys 60 ft in the 1.70s and 80s You have to leave the line with some rpms tough. I say that since you have a T-5 trans

    Your 60 foot is horrible!!!

Don't bother with any other gear until you get posi or some sort of limited slip system. I would then go with 3.73's with that 5 speed you are running, maybe 4.10's if it is not street driven too much.

Your mph indicates a mid to high 14's easily, but you can't just get off right. Concentrate on traction and 60 foot, and your time will go way down!!
