There is a 4 door Comet in the Pull A Part that I will need to get inside of the trunk today. Without keys, how would I go about that? Is there some way I can twist the lock out of it or something? This car will meet the crusher in less then a month so it dosen't really matter if I do any permanent damage. But I need to save that back bumper! I also need to get into the trunk of a '70 2 door Mav without keys to get the rear valance. I'm thinking maybe I can just take a big flathead and a wrench and force the lock to turn?
take out back seat and go in from there with a couple of long exts remove the 7/16 bolts there are 3 of them if you can get you body in you can take remove the bolt on left side (looking in) and slide clip off then the lock assembly will come out
Cool, that will work on the 4 door since it's clean inside. The '70 has had rats living in it and is a serious health hazzard as far as the interior goes, so I won't be getting in it. I'll just see if I can pry the trunk open some how.
Take a big flatehead screwdriver and a big hammer. Hammer the screwdriver into the lock cylinder until you can turn it .........or it falls out.
yea i had to go thru the back seat, took the thin metal peice around it off thats holdng the cylinder in and fell right out, then use a flat head for the key
another thing to try if you can't get inside is to use a drill and drill the lock out, then go in with a screwdriver.
Tips on breaking into a Maverick trunk 101...I hope this information doesn't fall into the wrong hands All of these will work by the way....
The Comet didn't put up much of a fight. But once I got it open the damn trunk lid wouldn't stay up so I had to jam a seat in to hold it up. The '70 is a diffrent story. I completely mangled the lock and still couldn't get it open. I finnaly just said hell with it and took a big as screw driver and pryed both sides up enough to get a socket with a long extension in and take the bolts loose from the hinges. Then I could raise one side of the trunk lid enough to get my arm in and take the screws out of the lock. Then she opened up. I bent the trunk lid all to hell but it was junk anyways.
After going through all that....and the trunk lid was junk anyways....I would have taken my cordless saw and treated it like a can of beans.
Believe me, if I would have had a saw of some sort I would have cut that POS off there. It wasn't rusty but it looked like someone had backed into a pole or something and put about a 2 inch wide dent in it. Rust free, dentless trunk lids are a dime a dozen around here, so I didn't really care if I messed it up getting it off.
