Okay, what I know about the Ford inline six-cylinder engines and the trannys that connect to them will not fill up the eye of a needle. As Sgt. Shultze would say...."I know nothing..."

I have spoken with three different people that I trust and have gotten three different answers.

    I have a '74 with a 250 ci.

What automatic tranny is behind it?

Will an AOD fit behind it? If so, are any modifications needed.

Are aftermarket performance parts available for the 250 ci.?

Thanks for helping out a dummy.

     :)

You have a C4 transmission. Whether the AOD would fit would depend on the mounts, for one thing. You might have to do some modifications, but I cannot say for sure. Then there is the issue on whether the bell housing will fit or if the old one can be mated to the AOD. And then the drive shaft might be a different length. You'd have to do some research on this. They used to make shift kits for the C4 when it was more common. I'm sure you could still find one somewhere like Summit.

    Lets see that's 164 teeth X 3 posts = 492 teeth.

    That would be a 492 tooth flexplate with a 0 balance! ;)

    [just kidding].:D

74? You get another car? :hmmm: I know that '77 definately has a C4. Which I would like to have first dibs on if you put an AOD in. :yup:

I could probably get you that F150 flex plate for about $11 at Pull-A-Part up here. Thing is finding an F150/Van with a 300 and an AOD. Most 300's seem to have C6's behind them.

WOW! Where did this very old thread come from?Jamie, don't have a '74. Look at when I started this thread - April 2004. I only had one Maverick then - the '74 I sold you.
