I've just had alot of work done on my Maverick and it is still not running right. I'm ashamed to say that I do not know much on the mechanical side of things. All I really know is I love my car. Anyway, here's the work that I've just had done.

    Heads redone
    new fuel pump
    new rotor
    new plugs
    new distrib. cap
    new wires
    new radiator
removed the power steering pump (converted to manual)
    new push rods
    rebuilt rocker arm assembly

    now here's my problem

when I get up to about 45-60 miles an hour the engine dies on me. It doesn't exactly shut off it just sounds like there isn't any fuel or spark or something happening in the engine. If I let off of the gas and then ease back onto the pedal it will come back. I've been told it could be some advance problem OR a float or something else in the carb. instead of just throwing money at it and seeing if that will fix the problem and finding out it wont I would like to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and what they did to fix it. Thank you for your help.

The first thing I would check would be the fuel filter.

Is this a 6cyl, w/one barrel? Sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Have the float level checked/ or new float in carb.

I'd check the filter and possibly the accellerator pump diaphram. If you have not went thru the carb yet that's a good place to start. These are old cars..if it
has sat for long periods before the gaskets weaken and fail, gas tanks are gummy....hope you figure it out.

    Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their input. I put on a new fuel filter and that wasn't the problem. I cleared out the fuel line and that wasn't the problem. I finally just got the carb rebuilt (for 40 bucks - not bad .... I hope) and that fixed the problem. I was told that a pick up line was loose and needed to be tightened.

Again, I apreciate all of your input and suggestions.

Sounds like a good ending. Glad you got it fixed. (y)
