I am wondering if anyone road races here in this forum. I would really like to road race and have a good time but I do not know how to do it. I do not know where to go and who to call in order to find out.

I did years ago. Stopped in the 90's. Ran Datsuns (510 & 1200), a Healey Bug Eye sprite and a Vega GT. It was a BLAST. If I still had a car that I could do that with I'd start again. I'd go with a Miata. They have a spec class for them that is affordable. Another good place to start learning is Karts. Check out the www.ikfkarting.com

SCCA is the place to go. Start with Autocross and SOLO events. Learn the basics at slow speeds before you go all out. Not sure where you are in TX, but there was a very strong SCCA chapter in Dallas when I lived there. Ran Solo events with them and we ran an SCCA regional race at the old airport that DFW replaced untill they tore it down.

Do mavs make good street or road racers? I don't know much about them other than what I'm learning here and online. Would say a stock 302 V8 beat one of those little ricer Hondas? Do they have more high-end or low-end power?

Probably could do a search on the boards (and am doing so now) but just wanted to ask. Thanks :)

Not stock .... but set up correctly is a whole 'nother story - :bananaman

Board regular Gunslinger has his car set up to road race at tracks like Road America. Check out some of his past posts about his set up.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
:rofl2:i've driven my friends ricers 80% of the time they are show but no go
but then sometimes you find one than can whip a stock V8,supras and rsx's are the ones that can whip a stock V8 with their stock engines, and they can handle up to 500 Hp with the standard bottom end.

If the Maverick is set up right , you can be as competitive as an early Mustang.

As far as the ricers, I would'nt give the current front drivers a second look. When I ran my early '70's Datuns, my lap times on the autocross courses were as fast as most of the V8 cars except the race prep'ed stuff. Size and handling made up for raw horse power.

Best front drivers I drove were VW and early MOPAR since they used the same chassis.
