I like the design... It appears to me that you are going for flat stock across the rear and behind the bumper, with mounting being simple holes so it can sandwich between bumper and car. Correct? Then the receiver drops down, again in flat stock, behind the valance to just beneath the valance... Then attach your actual reciever tube from there. Correct? Just enough to get the aftermarket bike rack attachment in... Sounds good to me, however I am pretty sure it would not be strong enough to use as anything other than a bike receiver. IMO it should be removed from the car if you were to sell it or turn it over to someone. That way there would be no thought in their mind that it was a standard strength receiver. They might hook something heavy to it and damage/injure something/someone. Dave
Yeah you pretty much got the idea. Since I did a Big Bumper to Small Bumper Conversion the original Big Bumper mounts points with the threaded holes are still there .. behind the valance on the back of the frame rails .... that is where I would mount it to ...
Blugene ... I think you would need a big bumper car that has been converted to small bumpers to really fabricate right and have it drop behind the valance like I am envisioning ....
Okay, gotcha... That makes a big difference. If those mounts can hold that bumper, they can haul a house!
make it strong. i think there will be more than 100 lbs of stress on it as you go down the road. jmho.
Well ... only the 74 and up would have the mounting area with the threads ... not sure what a 70/73 looks like behind the valance ... I never took note ...
Dan that looks good but I would buy the bike rack first and build the hitch to fit. i would think you can get those to fit the small recievers right. Also might want to cosider some horizontal bracing to keep it from bending. later Tim
