finally got my wiring done, went to start it it sounded like the timing is off (it probably is ill check that tomorow, but anyways... i saw smoke comming from engine/firewall area, thought it was my starter over heating from cranking, but starter was ice cold, went to crank it again more smoke, i looked over and touched my trans dipstick tube (i have steinless steel one) and that thing is insanely hot? :hmmm: why and is that normal? i mean it got hot enough to burn me, and make alot of smoke.

Wow, I have never heard of anything like that. Probably a long shot, but maybe it's rubbing on the exaust somewhere or something?

Check all your grounds. Batt to engine, and engine to body. Make shure they are tight and clean.

I'm in agreement with the bad/poor ground.

I had only one of little braided straps going from the engine to the firewall when I went to crank mine for the first time. It smoked the strap!

Only until I added heavier gauge wire and a couple more straps did things "calm down" - including my heart rate.

I hope that's all it is on yours. Keep us posted.

My guess is ...you have pinched a power wire between the motor and bell-housing...just my guess

i fogot to attach the engine ground, and the starter was using the dipstick as a ground since it was barelly touching the firewall :slap:
