Started the mav up the other day, took it for a drive and some horrible noises started coming from the engine. Turns out the engine threw a rod so it is parked for the winter since it is already snowing here. So I'm driving my F150 with a v8 5.0L around for the winter. It's a 1994 F150 LB XLT. It's a new truck to me and I've never worked on a fuel injected 302 before. The people on this board know more about 302's than anyone I know. What all should be done to a fuel injected 5.0L that hasn't been tuned up in a while? Thanks, Jonathan
welp prolly start with the spark plugs, wires while your at it maybe a some belts, oil change, i think fuel injector cleaner , but at any parts store pour in your tank and should clean those up but just check all the reg stuff
sorry to hear about the mav... you could always yank th motor out and you can work on it all winter... you will have plenty of time to fix it up right and put some mods in it... then spring hits and you will have a good strong motor
I'm working on buying a house. When I get moved in there I'll be able to work on the engine as much as I want. Where I live now we're not even allowed to pop the hood. The mav is going to be my long term restoration project. The truck has a Throttle body injection system. Thanks, Jonathan
Take a clean towel or wash cloth and a tooth brush and clean out the throttle body and plate, where the plate seats. I have used several different kinds of cleaners but they have to say throttle body safe. I have also used plain old WD40 and it worked also, it's all in the elbone. Check it out with a flash light and see if it is dirty.
How does it run anyway? Any symptoms? With the climate changing you might want to check that battery. Check the temp sensor for any corosion, I have seen them get some at times.
The engine seems to run great, but there is not very much power upon acceleration. It has 150000 miles on it but has had an oil change every 3000 miles and has been taken care of. It's a good truck, just trying to power it up a little bit. I'll check the throttle body. Jonathan
