Hello, I have been reading a while, but never posted. I had a 73 Grabber back in the day, and recently acquired a 70 Maverick. It will be primarily a strip car. I am in the process of converting from the original 200 six engine. I am in New Mexico.

    Now for the questions:
Is the short water pump (and associated brackets) on the 94 and 95 Mustang the same as the short water pump and accessories on the Explorer?

Are there any readily available (junkyard) brackets/pulleys that work with the short waterpump and allow the serpintine belt to be used with only crank. water pump and alternator?

I plan to put a slightly modified 96 Explorer engine(regular GT-40 heads, not the P's) in the maverick and would like to stay with the serpintine belt, short (reverse) water pump and front cover, but need a bracket to allow an alternator that will work with this set up.

The car is manual steering, so only accessory is the alternator. Just trying to find a cheap and simple way to use the original alum short water pump.
I see lots of information on underdrive and pully issues, but have not seen this issue, or at least did not notice it. Any ideas??

Thanks to all, Farmall in New Mexico

I did something kinda unheard of,,, I added a second alternator. Ive got a 88 roller engine in my maverick,, I left the stock alternator bracket on the passenger side, then took an older ford alternator and bolted it on the left side of the engine. I used a belt from a Lumina 3.1 chevy, put on a bigger pulley on the second alternator, with the stock tensioner, the belt works fine. Pictures available upon request. You a farmall or two???? Let me be more elaborate,, I had to change the pulley diameters on the alternators,, on the one I added,, I took the smog pump pulley, which is bolted on the smog pump, bored the center hole out to fit the armature, used the stock spacer, or bushing,,, and then I used a pulley from a late chevy alternator and put it on the ford alternator, had to shave like,, .020 off the spacer bushing, but worked perfectly! so, I have 2 alternators, the water pump, and the stock tensioner, no other accesories. Go with an 89 crown vic water pump and you can run just alt., water pump and crank. I have a March pulley set up but you can use the original mustang type pullies and bracket.
