When I bought my new tires and rims last spring, I didnt have the car with me. The dude at the tire shop said he would really like to see my car if I could bring it by some time. Flash forward to today, which will be one of the last if not the last time I will have it out this year. I get to the tire shop and I dont see the dude I am looking for. Some kid comes out and says he really likes my Mustang, (Yeah I know you have all heard it before). Then this dude comes out and asks if it is a Nova? I stay calm and explain its a Maverick. Finally the dude I was looking for comes out and he and I start talking. Next thing I have the hood open and out comes this WHACKED dude. He starts yelling, No way, Ford never made no Stallion!! Then he starts telling me what is not stock on my car, like I dont already know. Finally I shut him down, and I kinda had to be a dick, but the guy was annoying the hell out of me. The last thing out of his mouth was, "Show me some documentation that Ford made this car"! I told him that I had bought it new and that I had even ordered it. Only thing is, I was in his face big time, and leaning down about a foot to do it. He quickly went back into the shop. Gordon, the dude I went to show the car to in the first place then informed me that I had parked in the burnout pit, and that placed me in the position of having to do a mandatory burnout. I didnt want any trouble with the law or anything and obliged them quite nicely. You should have seen the hoopin and hollerin in the tire smoke! I find a lot of pleasure in not seeing myself coming or going down the road, and believe that most Mav/Comet owners feel the same.

That guy's an idiot. I hate people like that who tell you everything about your car. Thanks for shutting him down - people like that should be.

Way to go Dan! Jerks like him deserve to get knocked down a few pegs. Iv'e had more than my fair share of idiots try to tell me that Mavericks never came with a 302 simply because they never saw one before. I finally got so tired of the same old argument that I now carry the original window sticker in the car now. That tends to shut the turkeys up fast. I would have loved to have seen thier faces when you lit the tires up. It had to be priceless.

I'm sticking to my first choice of words when I saw your car:

"THAT IS ONE NICE MUSTANG!" .. or Nova... I'm not sure which.

I'll bet you get PLENTY of stares in that beauty.

Good post, and great looking STALLION, Dan. [IMG]

Man, that car looks good! I know what you mean about the know it all automotive historians ,I once had a guy tell me that Ford NEVER put stickers (stripes) on any car from the factory ,and that someone had repainted my car and added the grabber stripes themselves! Then there was the guy who asked me why I took the Blower off my car and put the tunnel ram on. I said "No it has never had a blower on it ,only the same tunnel ram thats on it now". He replies angrily "NO it DID have a belt driven blower on `cause I saw it on there!" I laugh at him and say" I really think that if I had spent $3,000.oo on a Super charger it would not have slipped my mind!"

    That's the top 2...

That's the top two names people have for my maverick. Nova and Mustang. I guess we can't hold ignorance against someone, but stupidity like that guy showed deserves to be shut down. Good Job! ANd I just wanna echo what has been said.... and said...and said--- VERY Beautiful car you've got there! Country

Dan the car really looks good, and the way you handled the moroon was great.

I even had mine out tonight, first time since the roundup. Yes I ran down to the auto parts store for my 5th wheel stud. Was good to get my mind on something else (my 61 year old fathers health is good). Had 3 nice car yells, and sat at a light with a punk in a late model firebird, he gased it then I did and he never looked back over and pulled away from the light like a old woman..lol.

Great looking as always Dan!! I also have a Ranchero that has been called the other name more times than I can count. Makes you want to write "GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT" on a 2X4 and smack them across the forehead with it everytime they open their moronic mouth.

Followup, went to cruise in tonite here where we live. I will list what people mis identified my car as.
    1. I know its a mustang, I just dont know what year.
    2. That red and black Mustang sure is pretty with that 2tone paint.
    3. It's either a nova or a camaro.

All of the above was heard by me as I stood about 10 ft behind the car talking to some buddies. They all really enjoyed it too.

I guess it is time to put on a Maverick nameplate, at least on the decklid.

If you really want to confuse people, put 5.0 emblems on the fenders! That'll keep em guessing!
