Went 4 rounds, again. But all the excitment for me came during the first time run. I was sitting in the staging lanes, leaning up against the mav. and it felt really loose in the ass end. Did not think to much about it. Did my burn-out, staged and down came the lights. As soon as I floored it, the car went straight right  Pedaled it, git her straight, hammered the gas again, and once more dead to the right. Lifted out the gas and cruised through the traps, the whole time figuring I broke something. Well, after looking under it and having several people show me video of the pass. I figured out that all the times I had my 4 year old son out working on the car with me, "he" MUST have decided that I needed some "tuning" on my coil-overs. One side was as stiff as you could get it and the other was as loose as you could get it. Well, got them set right and made 5 straight 6.55 passes. O and by the way, I never said anything to my son, he is and always will be my crew chief..........he just missed the set-up, that time.
A Memory Maker for ya, John. Glad there was no 'incident'. I'm impressed with the times also - amazed and impressed as always. I gotta ask, what were your 60's and did you acheive any personal bests (60', e.t., mph,)? Thanks for posting - more inspiration for me. Rick
Thanks Rick..... It still amazes me how spectators and racers alike will walk past those 50 and $60,000 chassis cars and come talk to me about the maverick. I had 4 guys come up to me last night asking about the motor, at the same time I was talking to another racer with a tubbed Nova and the Nova guy was going on and on about my car. He said his wife had shot a video of his car(I happend to be in the other lane) he said he thought nothing about my car when he seen the "little" tires, but he said he could not believe how that thing ran. Anyway, the 4 guys and I started talking, they ask if they could see the motor. So when I opened the hood about 10 or 15 other people came around to look at it and the guy with the Nova, casually walked up to take a peek, I guess he had to see for himself that there was no NOS lines on it After I got done talking to those 4 guys and I shut the hood I had several more people come up and talk to me about the car. Like I have said many times, I car that runs 6.50's on motor isn't that big of a deal..............unless its a maverick!
60 foot times..... I usually leave the line at 2,300 rpm which gives me a 1.41-1.42 sixty foot on footbrake. Anymore rpm at launch and I red light. I did push it for a picture, which is the one you see. during this shot it went a 1.396 but I red lit! The car is real consistant. If you throw out the 1st time run, when my "crew chief" had the set-up wrong. The last 9 runs I have made are all 6.55's, to be more specific 6.554-6.557. I cannot ask for anymore than that from my car.
My goal....... If there is every such a thing. Is to put them "big" headers that Stephen and Jim have. And HOPEFULLY that will get me in the 6.30 range on motor. Then I was going to set the car up to run "Entry Street" which is heads-up. But, I think that my car is more suited and will be easier to do, is to run "Pro Street". THose guys run anywhere from 4.90 and slower. They where in town this weekend and the #1 qualifier was a 5.20 something. The thing I like about the Pro class is the weight limit is a just a little heavier than I am now and they run on bigger tires. I figure once I get all the stuff back on it to be street legal, I will be right at there weight requirement. I am figuring, if I can get the car to run 6.30's on motor and then give it another 250 or more shot. I should be able to run with them guys. I know it takes alot more than that. I will need to complete my cage and put a fire system on it and do some other stuff. But my goal is to run pro street in a couple years. Hey, this is America and we are allowed to dream.
Man a car with the wheels up in the air like that looking and going that fast needs paint, and FLAMES!!!! C'mon John, Flames, flames, flames flames, flames, flames!!!:bananaman I'm getting ready to do 2 trucks might as well do yours too!
Re: My goal....... He he @ Pro Street (5.0's). We're never satisfied with our e.t.s are we? ...but hey, this is American, and we're allowed to dream. All it takes is money. As alway, good luck, Rick
John, What do you have done already on the cage, and what do you still have to do? The reason I'm asking....I've got a tubing bender, notcher, and welder. We're not that far apart, and I would shoot you a very good deal on whatever you need to do. Let me know... Post me a few shots on here of what you already have as far as a bar/cage. I'd like to see it. Thanks,
I say get over to Wards and get it done John.............Let me know when I want to watch and maybe even learn something, if we hurry I can bring my Bike and he can Flame it too
Hey Maxx...... Right now I just have a 6 point in it. I had pictures, but now there gone, damn computer! I want to put the halo in it. I will be ready to do something this winter, I will get with you when I am ready! Thanks for the offer!
I am talking to my Uncle and making sure he thinks he could do the flames justice. I like the ideal, I just want to make sure my uncle feels comfortable doing them.
