Hello to all. I purchased my 1971 Comet GT new in the fall of 1970. I special ordered it from Gilboy Ford in Allentown, Pa. with the V-8, white exterior, and the red comfort weave bucket seats. It was my first new car. I had big plans to modify the engine just like I had done to my pervious cars, however, after having a car that had decent power, got good gas milage, and was a pleasure to drive, I decided to leave it mostly stock. All I ever did to it was a set of Torque Thrust wheels with E70R14 tires, dual exhausts, and eventually a 3:50 rear gear, and an electronic ignition. I could squeeze 25 MPG out of it on a trip when it had the stock 2:79 rear. Anyway, we parted company in 1980 when I moved to California. I purchased it back this past summer. Of course, it needs some work so I have a project ahead of me, but I must finish my wife's 1966 Mustang Convertible first. Right now it is on my lift getting converted to front disc brakes from a 1976 Maverick only because I am taking the brakes from it for the wife's convertible. I cleaned, rebuilt, and concourse detailed the disc brakes and plan to eventially do the same to the whole undercariage. There is a wealth of information out there on Mustangs as far as undercarriage paint sequence and colors, paint daubs and stripes on parts, but this being my first restoration of a Comet, I'll be looking for that type of information as the work proceeds. Hello and welcome, from another new member. Any pics of the Comet &/or the Mustang? Got to love muscle pics, finished or work in progress.
Keith- Welcome to the site. Glad to hear of another GT owner joining us. As far as concours original marking, daubs etc. There is no resource for us. There are no books or documents identifying what and where. There are a few of us who have been able to identify original vehicles and make notes/pics of such markings. Dan Hines would be a good resource for that. I have little info relevant to mine. Look up DMHines username here on this site and send him a message or e-mail. Perhaps you guys can swap info based on what he has done with his '71 Grabber. Seth Roberts MCCI State Rep. Coordinator 1971-1975 Comet GT Registrar redcometgt@aol.com
