What is needed to get a 302 and T5 into 69 maverick? I don't need the whole list of parts, but right now we have the shortblock of the motor assembled, and will be picking up the T5 with clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, and shifter this weekend. We want to get that much of it dropped into the car ASAP. The whole shortblock/tranny combo will be assembled prior to dropping in the motor. The 69 is an original I6 carb car with an automatic tranny, but it is mostly gutted except the dash and the whole wiring harness. The hole has already been cut in the floor for the 5 speed shifter to poke through. First of all, I assume I can just use headers and motor mounts from any original V8 maverick right? Are there any good aftermarket shorty headers that will fit without issues? Also, what kind of crossmember do I need to use under the tranny? I know it needs to be a double hump to fit dual exhaust, but that's about all I know. I have the one out of my 89 mustang if it can be used. I know it bolts to a T5 no problem, just don't know if it will fit the maverick. Are there any other things I need just to get these in the car for now? I don't want to have to pull the motor/tranny back out for any reason. Thanks guys.
oh, also... what about the clutch pedal assembly and clutch cable. Do you guys know of which parts to use and any instructiosn for the install? Thanks.
Oh yeah, and I read somewhere on hee that the oil pan from the mustang can not be used becasue it is a dual sump pan. I hear it needs to be a front sump pan only. Do you guys know any part numbers for those? Thanks.
From what I can tell, you will have trouble using shortys and a manual tranny. LTs have plenty of room for the linkages or slaves, whatever you decide to use. I don't have much experience with the T5 myself. You do know that you will need V8 frame stands? Either Maverick/Comet or 66-70 Stang. The Maverick engine mounts themselves are unique to our cars. They are still available cheap at your local parts store though. Also, for the best results, you need the crossmember under the engine. Some call it the 'belly bar'. It's not a must have, but the V8 throttle cable is much shorter than the 6 also. If you are not familiar with Mavs in general (I don't know, so I'll throw this out), remember to also always use your shock tower braces. Especially now that you have the power and weight of a V8 up there. Another tip, subframe connectors are always a good idea. If you are still using the stock rear, it probably won't last long behind a manual V8 combo. Upgrading to an 8", or better yet 9" rear and Granada disc brakes will bring you to the V8 standard of 5 wheel lugs. As well as giving you the strength you need... Yeah, the guy we bought the car from had alreayd done all the body work ready for a paint job, and also did a 5 lug conversion with 4 wheel disk brakes. The rear is an 8.8 with supposedly 3.73 gears. That part of it should be ready to go. Do you know of any pictures of the v8 frame stands and the "belly bar"??? Subframe connectors are already gong on once the car is finished and running, but it will be the last thing to be done. And what about the oil pan?? What will fit with this swap?
I did the t5 swap on my car and it isn't the easiest in the world,but with a little time and some fabricating mine works awsome! I used headman long tubes,a lakewood scatter shield,i made my own trans crossmember but others have modified a stock v8 one.I used a cable clutch and custom fabbed everything including the cable,but there are other ways by useing 5.0 stang pedal parts and adjustable cable and quadrant.Use the search function on the top of the page there have been lots of posts about t5 swaps that maybee helpfull.Derek.
I used the instructions from this site on the late model pedal install.It works great but if you are no good at fab work it will be hard.You can also use the driveshaft from the 89 as long as it still has the 8" rear. Gary

Are not the tunnels in a 69.5 Maverick smaller than all the other tunnels? I know there was a thread about that not too long ago. Im putting a T5 in my 71 Grabber right now. I used the original V8 tranny crossmember and modified it a bit by welding some tabs and drilling new holes to bolt up to the stock location since it sits about 1/2 lower. Also Im using a transmission mount off a C4 which bolts right too the T5...its not as tall as the one for a T5 so it allows the crossmember to sit closer to the factory location. I thought I could get away without cutting the tunnel any but I went ahead and trimmed the front floor brace at the top of the tunnel for extra clearence.
