(guess i ought to mention, i havent bought yet) i really have no plans yet. If i like what i see i just want to buy it and drive it and then maybe when money allows fix it up. The only change i would want to do would be exaust. Two questions,, In stock form, how do these cars go?? do they have good get up and go? Can they say out run your average car on the road? Amd secondly whats a good weight oil for these old 302's? I was thinking about rotella t 15w40, Whatcha think?

    Later!! chris.

depending on the year the stock 302 was only rated at appx 140-150 h.p. they aren't the slowest on the road but certainly not the fastest. don't let a decent car slip thru your fingers. these cars are getting harder to get.

Hows the performance of the 250 in these cars? I'm also looking at one. It seems that the number of performance parts for the 250 are less available than the 302. I'm currently looking for information on fordsix.com. But if you guys are more familiar with the particular installation in a maverick, I'd rather hear from you. Thanks.

you can build a fast 6 cyl but the general consensus is if 400+ h.p. is what you are after there is no replacement for displacement. ford six is a great place for info but don't forget clifford performance. there are a number of ways to make these 6's fast but you will spend almost the same money as you would on a v-8. that being said i am SERIOUSLY considering a build up on the new car when the time is right and using the 250 as it's powerplant. the wow factor alone would be worth it.
as for daily driving these 6's are one of the most reliable and hardy engines ford ever made.

How is the interchangeability between 4 door and 2 door parts? Can fenders and quarters be swapped between the two?

everything on the front is interchangeable. obviously the doors are not. the trunk decks are different too. the lights and bumpers are interchangeable. alot of the interior is swappable too
