I just got a 73 maverick grabber with a 2v 302 in it and I am not sure if the maverick came with posi track. According to the vin number and sticker on the inside of the door it is supposed to have a 3.00 gear in it but I am not sure if Mavericks came with posi track rear end. So do Mavericks have posi track?

It's been MANY years, someone could have put one in...
However, Dan is correct... they weren't available stock for some reason.
I believe you could get Traction-Lok in Pintos some years, and you could get a 9" rear in a 6 cylinder Granada, but you could not get limited slip in any Maverick, ever.

If it is, look if the tag is on one of the center chunks studs yet. The tag codes will ID it for year, model car, and what ratio and also if it is a traction-lok. An open 3:1 ratio will have a 3.00 stamped on the tag and a traction-loc will have a 3L 00 stamped on it.

another way to tell is jack the rear end up and turn the tire if both tires rotate in the same direction it is a posi unit. if they rotate opposite of each other they are an open rear.:)

That could be a spool setup. It is nice to find out what it really is.

    Here goes:

WDW-T is from a Maverick, starting model year 1971

3JA is the date code when built (year, month, week) = 1973, September, 1st week (no letter I or O is used in FOrd codes to prevent confusion with the numbers 1 and 0)

Look to the left of the 79, you will find a 2. - as this is a 2.79 ratio ring gear. Open - NOT traction lok

8 = your ring gear diameter for 8 inch

530A is an internal plant code that deciphers casting location and lot numbers.

Then I have another question then. When I floor the gas around a corner no matter what direction, left or right, there is always a skid mark on the outside tire. What does that mean?

When you say outside tire,,, if you turn to the right, is it the right tire,,,turn to the left, is it the left tire? This is the tires that should be leaving marks.

If it's left tire on a right turn,,, I'm thinking it's tire scrub ( folding under) A posi or spool should track better on the "low side" and the lighter or higher body side should leave miminal marks.

If none of this makes sense,,,,ask somebody who knows!

The means the outside tire was spinning and not getting traction!

    Sorry couldn't help myself.
