When i try to start my engine i hear it crank really really slowly and it wont start i hear a revolution about once a second or so its really really slow. I think this is the starter but i could be wrong is there anything else this could be?
thats what mine did after it warmed up. turned out to be my battery. although i did replace my starter also.
terminal connections tight, and clean? cables good, battery ok?, lotta variables here. does it start with a jump? if you have a battery charger, id disconnect the ground, and see if it takes a charge. then thats one variable outta the way. with a fully charged batt., car should wizz right over( providing the cables are good) if the battery is good, strip a small bit of cable back on both the negative and positive, look green? on either? if not, check the connections all around that circuit,i.e. battery, ground, starter. if these simple steps dont solve it, id say shoot at the starter.
I've done this before: Quick test the alternator. Jump start the car then un-hook the (-) cable at the battery. If the engine continues to run, the alternator is working - if the engine dies... well, you get the idea. Also, Auto Zone (or similar) will check your Alt, Starter, and Battery for free. My
The problem of taking the starter to a parts store to get it tested is they have no way of putting a load on the starter. If the bushings or brushes in the starter are worn it may test good on the bench but not work on the car. The starter needs to be tested on the car so you can put a load on it. I use a load tester to check amp draw from the starter. But as said before, you need to make shure that all the cables and connections are good first. You could be loosing alot of amp current due to bad connections and cables.
well got it figured out, tested the battery and when turning over it dropped to 7 volts so i took it out and used a battery tester on it and with a minimum load it dropped low. so i replaced that and it still had some problems so i brought the car into work and hooked it up to our diagnostic machine and low and behold the starter was drawing 600 amps!
