The carb is leaking some on the front or bottom in the area of the accelerator pump on the front and feels like there is a plate with screws on the bottom of the carb. I cant tell for sure where, it is just damp with some gas on the intake. I have two thought, pull it and get a rebuild kit and change the gaskets and such, or since this is a 34 year old car, i could get a rebuilt carb from like advance auto for 150. So first how are the rebuilt carbs from places like advance? Are they relatively easy to drop on and fine tune? Are they reliable? Would there be any other better choices for a carb? Or should i just get a kit and try to fix mine?? I am not sure the best option right now, so give some advice on which way to go.. This is a stock 302 nothing planned for mods.

If you have never rebuilt a carb before and that is you`r daily driver you`ll prolly be better off with the rebuilt carb from the parts store. But if its just you`r hobby car then go ahead and rebuild it you`r self , the mortorcraft 2 barrel is one of the most simple carbs there is to rebuild !

Ford 2v carbs are some of the best and easiest things to work on. The cover under the front is for the power valve. If the fuel is leaking from there, you have a leaking power valve under it. Get a kit and fix it yourself. You don't even have to tear it all apart. You could just replace the power valve & accelerator pump diaphram.

When you get a re-man, it is not going to be a '72 Maverick carb. It could be off just about anything Ford made with a 2v, that is jetted and adjusted (maybe) to the specs of your carb. Some re-mans are OK, other are junk. Fix yours and you will not only save cash, but you will also know what you have.

I'd rebuild it yourself, their an easy carb to get you started, not alot of parts, and it'll be the correct one to keep with the car. Most lits have good instructions, and a 2100 doesn't need many. Even try to find one of the Chilton Maverick repair manuals, it has everything you need to know.

okay finalled saw a drip. Looks like the accelerator pump diaphram is leaking cause when i rev it while it is running fuel drips out a little hole in the bottom of the cover. Is it as simple as it looks to repalce? Unhook arm remove four screws dont drop them or the spring change the diaphram and put it all back together? And it looks like it can be done while still mounted to the motor?

While you have it apart there are a couple of things that you can do to make it run better too.

In the accellerator pump well you will see two holes - one that your check valve goes in and another one that allows fuel to drain back into the fuel bowl. Plug that second hole and you will be a lot happier with your standing starts.

If the carb is really a 1972 carb you should go up on the jet size two sizes. The 1972 carbs were infamous for a lean surge at cruise between 50 and 70 mph. Two sizes will clean that up without affecting gas milage adversly. When I made those two mods on my 72 I got better milage after than I was getting before.
