Spindles out from a 1973 Mustang bolted right up. Same tie rods on both cars so the taper was correct. Parts are cheaper than Granada if I remember right. (had this stuff laying around a long while) Had to have brake hoses made up for about $20 a side. I put in a master cylinder from a later manual disc Maverick and had to make a new hard line for the rear brake circuit, but the one for the front screwed right in. Transmission is out of the car, so I can't tell you how well the brakes work yet, but it was an easy task.
Sure you can. Take it off the stands and push it down the hill. It's great way to test new brakes because the car will have less weight w/o the tranny.
good info. that is the same master cyl. i just put on my car..i cut the fitting off and put the correct one on. today "the boy" and i bled the brakes..Chris made the comment that the brakes felt better than they did..he knew i put on a new m/cyl. but he didn't know i put on a diff. one. the one before was a ...drum/drum m/cyl. ... ...
Re: Yet another front disc option Hey 71Gold, I am just double-checking because I am about to do the same thing on my '73. It currently has 4 wheel drums. You used a manual master cylinder for a front disc / rear drum car? And you didn't need to add a proportioning valve? Thanks in advance for a reply,
I used a manual master cylinder for a front disc / rear drum car. ...proportioning valve... some do...i didn't
I first used mine with out the prop valve, then added an adjustable one. Could not tell any differince. Made several adj, still no differince.
Re: Yet another front disc option Hi - and thanks to all who responded with their experiences! I hope I am as lucky as you folks - and I won't need to add a proportioning valve, either!!! Regards, BaldEagleMav
Look'in good! Did you notice a change in the offset (ie: do the wheels now stick outboard more)? ---------------------------- PS: I must have been out of the loop for a while...when did you get the killer paint job?
Shoulda done a search, I have posted all the possible donors about 50 times by now... And your a mod too! Sheesh, you should know better! :16suspect J/K Looks good! Fwiw, I just built a set of Stang brakes and it cost a bit more than the Granada stuff. Mainly because the early Stang stuff is starting to get hard to find locally. I had to order much of my stuff. The Granada stuff is available at Advance, and better yet, they don't want a core on any of it. I have been thinking about that though... If they don't want a core, it seems to me that it means they are getting ready to phase the part out. They don't change a thing. Other than giving you discs of course!
That is interesting... I never noticed. They (73 spindles) are the same as MANY Ford/Merc spindles from 68-73. There are 2 different bearing sizes, but that is the extent of changes. Also, drum spindles from Mavericks and those same cars are even the same part number. So if it pushes out 1/8" going drum to disc on our cars, it would do the same when going drum to disc on the others. Anyway, I think the wheels should set wider on the front of a Maverick anyway. So IMO, it's a good thing.
Actually, they only want cores on remanufactured items. If you buy calipers that are remanned (Cardone), then there'll be a core charge. If it's a Bendix caliper, they're new and don't require a core. I checked a few weeks ago, since I have a whole Granada setup too. At least, my area has to have cores on the remanned items from granada brakes. I seriously doubt that cardone will quit remanning them. We don't sell the spindles (of course), nor the caliper brackets. The caliper-to-bracket shim assembly and alan-head screw is available, as well as the rotors (Wearever), brake hoses (Tru Torque or Bendix), pads (Wearever/Bendix), dust caps (Motormite/HELP!), spindle nut kits (Pik-A-Nut), and seals and bearings (Federal Mogul or Motor City) My recommendation: go with Bendix and Federal-Mogul all the way... ees da goot chit. -Your friendly Advance employee
