hi, on a 71'-77' if you are just taking it out it should just drop down. there is a vent pipe on top you will have to take loose. look to the front and you will see it. if you like you can take the bolts out of the flang on the outside of the spout. then take the screws out of the rubber boot and then slide the spout out the back of the car. be careful with the rubber seal in the tank. i don't know of a replacement ...frank...:bananaman L.T.N.G.

Just like blown76 said, Remove the 3/8 bolts where you put the gas cap on. Then remove the philips screws from the gasket in the trunk. This will give you some additional mobility in freeing the filler pipe from the tank. The pipe goes into a rubber doughnut gasket.
where the pipe goes down into the tank, there may be rust holding it in place. Spray something in there to free it up. Keep yanking and jerking.

Get a big ass hammer (just kidding)! Just gotta fool with it a bit.

Ok, let me see if i got this right, Where the disconnection will be made is "under" the car, right where the curved pipe meets the tank. right? I can see a black rubber thing there, i am assuming that is it. Please correct me if i am wrong and thank you for all your help.

No, after unbolting the filler neck from the rear panel, it (with a little effort) just pulls right out of the gasket on the tank. I fought with the tank on my 71 Grabber for hours, trying to pull the tank off from the bottom, then pulled the neck right out from the top in a few seconds. Then the tank was able to drop right out.
